My wife Erin makes jewelry in her spare time, so being the good husband I made her an ecommerce website to supplement her craft show and farmers market sales. Who doesn’t love their local print shop? When I ran for City Council back in 2008, this is where I went for my yard signs. I’m a big fan of buying local, so getting something printed at Kinko’s would be like shopping at Wal-Mart for me. It doesn’t feel right, so I don’t do it. I offered to develop a simple, mobile friendly website to replace their old website from the late 90’s, mostly because I was a fan, but also because the website was painful to view. Part of the deal was to move hosting over to my website hosting company, and it was my responsibility to provide a smooth transition. Between the email accounts and the public FTP account, I was able to do just that. Photography and image editing was part of the website development offer. Built from scratch, this was my first database driven website. It still gets quite a bit of traffic for something so simple. Being the type of developer who can’t just let a good thing (traffic) sit there, I plan on converting this to a WordPress site soon.
